How to make a GIF from a Pinterest video
- Open the video Pin. Tap it so it opens on its own page.
- Copy the link. Tap share, then Copy link. A pin.it link is fine.
- Paste and save. Paste it above, press Download, then Save on the highlighted GIF · silent row.
Why turn a Pin into a GIF?
Pinterest is full of short, pretty loops: a pour of coffee, paint mixing, a flower opening, a fabric swatch moving in the light. As a GIF, they play on their own without a play button, and they work in places that don't accept videos.

Drop a GIF into Google Slides, Keynote, Notion or a design board and it keeps moving.
Chats and notes
Share a loop in a group chat or keep it in a notes app as visual inspiration.
Only short Pins get a GIF
The GIF option appears for video Pins of 15 seconds or less. Longer videos would make GIFs that are far too large to use. For longer Pins, you'll see a short note, and you can save the video or its sound instead.
Most decorative Pinterest loops are only a few seconds long, so they're a perfect fit.
What size is the GIF?
GIFs are made up to 320 pixels wide at 8 frames per second, with a reduced colour palette. That keeps files manageable while still looking smooth in a slide or chat.
Pinterest videos often have lots of colour and fine detail, which makes GIFs larger. In our test, an 8-second Pin became a GIF of about 4.5 MB. Simpler, calmer clips make smaller files.

- Public video Pins, from

- Not Pins on secret boards.
- Not Pins that link to a video on another website.
Using your GIF
- iPhone: open the GIF in the Files app, tap Share, then Save Image to put it in Photos.
- Android: it's in your Download folder and plays in most galleries.
- Computer: drag it into slides, documents or a chat window.
Credit the creator
Many beautiful loops are made by small artists, florists and makers. If you use their GIF in a presentation or post, mention where it came from. Don't use it in ads or products without asking.
If something goes wrong
- "No GIF for this post": the video is longer than 15 seconds.
- "We couldn't make a GIF": the conversion failed. Try once more, or save the MP4.
- "No downloadable video": it's an image Pin.
- Save stopped working: Save buttons last 30 minutes. Paste the link again.
Pinterest GIF questions
Does the GIF keep the sound?
No. GIFs can't contain sound. Save the MP4 or MP3 if you need it.
Why is my GIF a few megabytes?
GIF is an old format, and colourful video turns into large files. The MP4 is much smaller.
Can I make a GIF from an image Pin?
No, only from video Pins.
Do I need a Pinterest account?
No.
Is anything stored?
No. The video and GIF are deleted after sending. Read our privacy policy.
